R.I.P. Dave "Crash" Collins

Although I only met Crash once, riding with him at McGonigle Canyon in December of '08, I recognize the important impact he made on the Southern California mountain bike scene. R.I.P. Crash.

Wedding Present Kick Off N. American Tour in SD

Brit indie rockers will be kicking off their North American "Bizarro" tour on April 1st at the Casbah in San Diego, playing their 1989 classic straight though. Since it's one of my all-time favorite records, it's safe to say that I'm in. Complete tour dates at SlicingUpEyeballs(dot)com

Vintage Green Lake Postcard

Like the postcards I scanned and featured back in December '08 (here and here), this one is also addressed to Mr. John Davis (box 278) in Earlville, Ill.


Postmarked August 9, 1909 and highlighting the "East Entrance to Sylvan Oakwood in Green Lake, Wis.".

The Oakwood was founded in 1867, meaning the hotel had already been in operation for 42 years by the time this postcard was sent.

Dear Friend John

I received your card and was sorry to hear that you were not feeling well. We went to the dance Friday night and had a lousy time. We are going around the lake this afternoon on the boat.

I bet she took the Queen on the lake excursion. Bummer that she "had a lousy time" at the dance.

An even bigger bummer is that, after 142 years, the Oakwood Lodge is no longer in operation. Apparently everything was auctioned off last November 10th and their website is, for all intents and purposes, dead.

Things I Miss About Madison

The way-cool "Forward" badger banners on select lamp posts around downtown Madison. Simple, clean graphics. A set of these would make for some fantastic garage fodder. Maybe the good people of sconnie.com can put this on a t-shirt.
