Old Avocado Grove Via Hipstamatic

My friend Graham and I did a nice road ride this morning, finding ourselves on some lightly-traveled roads northeast of San Marcos. A seemingly picturesque abandoned avocado grove forced me to pull the phone out for a few quick pics. Since we weren't out during the "golden hour", I compensated by using the overused Hipstamatic app. Results below...
At least the clouds helped make the sky more dramatic. Coupled with the Hipstamatic, it almost gives the illusion that I have a shred of talent with the camera. Someday...

More Produce, D.I.Y-Style

It was just over a year ago that we brought an avocado tree home from Lowe's. While it has yet to produce fruit, the little guy's grown quite a bit and isn't all that little anymore. In fact, despite losing almost all it's leaves early in the summer, we've now had to transplant it twice.

pot, sweet pot (not *that* kind of pot, silly)

Since we had an extra pot, and a little bit of extra cash, we sprung for a new addition to our patio garden this past weekend.
Living in SD county, how can we not have a citrus tree? This one is a lime - as evidenced by the pair hanging off a branch.
Hopefully we'll be enjoying the (literal) fruits of our labor within the next year.

Fun with foliage

or name that tree!

Give up?

We picked it up at Lowes this afternoon (sorry Dad). They also had kiwi and various citrus trees. Since Celeste likes kiwis so much, that might be our next tree.

But this still doesn't top the bag of 20 avocados we bought for $5 from a roadside stand on Friday. Celeste has been having avocado and cheese smeared on toast every morning. Calisconsin sandwich anyone?
