Turkey Day!

Gorge-a-palooza!

The bird's on the grill:

(Simpson's 10th Anniversary-edition Weber):

And the Bosch Kitchen Machine has been working overtime, kneading bread dough and mashing potatoes.

Heading up to Mission Viejo for dinner at a friend's house later this afternoon. Turkey + air hockey + Wii + friends = fun.

Storm Damage

We finally received a decent rainfall last night with about .6" falling after 11:00 PM.

All's not perfect though, I went out this morning to find some ugly, nasty storm damage.

I sure hope the landscaping crew comes by this morning to clean it up.

Why can't our house be sold - or at least rented?

If it was, I'd have this beast (1973 VW "Thing" aka Type 181) in my garage.

A local friend of mine is selling it, it's pretty solid and complete, just needs a few rust fixes and a head rebuild, neither of which are major deals on air-cooled VWs.

Talk about the perfect Beachvagen. Did I mention that it's cheap?

I already have dreams about painting it a funky Euro 70s color (other than yellow)...

..or going with a military look.

Someday. A Thing is on my list of cars I will own before I'm dead.

Rain?

It's funny but not too surprising. I used to check the National Weather Service and Weather Underground forecasts a few times per day back in Wisconsin. In the time we've been here in Carlsbad, I think I may have checked these sites a total of 5 times.

Having an iPhone is partly to blame, it's a few swooshes across the touch screen to access the weather, but the main reason I stopped checking is because the weather hasn't changed much.

It'll be nice to have a little rain.

Taiwan VI - protective plastic coverings

The Taiwanese seem to love the protective film or plastic bags installed on consumer goods at the factories. These are placed on the item to prevent shipping damage and are generally removed by the end user. However, Taiwanese seem to hold on to these with a sense of pride.

My guess is that many of these items end up with the protective plastic still in place when they hit the landfill.

Some examples:

scooter seat, patched with packing tape

black plastic axle cap (designed to prevent axle from puncturing shipping carton)

aging computer monitor at a factory

conference room chair

car door handle

car seatbelt buckle (same car as door handle above)

Bike and beach

Celeste rode her bike a little bit this morning....
(yes, that's one of her 18 Webkinzzz tangled in her bike cables)...and we went down to the beach after lunch.
It was a bit cloudy down on the beach, but that was fine by us as it was sunny at home.

Tacos y bicicletas

¡combinación deliciosa!
