Down On The Street

Pony cars, I can generally take 'em or leave 'em. But this sharp '67 Camaro RS that lives up the street from me is a pretty nice car.
Nice and simple lines, powered by a 327 cu in SBC.
Personally I could pass on the white stripes, but they fit the car and era.
This Camaro generally stays put in the owner's garage. I'm not sure what it was doing out in the street. Fine by me, as it was finally captured by the iPhone's camera.
At least the owner didn't succumb to the trend of putting large, chrome, dumb alloy wheels on it. These iconic Rally wheels look good on just about any vintage Chevy.

I don't quite get the rear wheel removal at the :15 and :50 marks.
Did consumers not believe that the front wheels of car could also be the drive wheels? Had every American forgotten about the groundbreaking (and beautiful) 1934-57 Citroën Traction Avant? Well, probably, but among others, the VW Golf/Rabbit, all SAABs and the bottom-feeder Dodge Omni/Plymouth Horizon twins had all been in the market for at least a couple of years prior to GM's "X-body" 1980 introduction.

I still can't believe that a tandem-axle boat trailer could have negative tongue weight. Or that GM would recycle the name from one of the all-time marketing failures, a name that has a double meaning. Who wants to get a citation while driving anyway?

Down on the Street - Nighttime Edition

Walking Juno the other night I came across this massive hunk of Detroit Steel:
Why it's a "shoebox" Chevy. Specifically a 1956 Bel Air convertible. Too bad it was so dark - and that iPhones are pretty much useless in low light. But I still had to snag a shot as it was another interesting car in the 'hood.
Personally I like the '55s better (make mine a Nomad please), but this was a solid car that but it looked pretty good in a dark blue/medium blue combo with a dark blue top. I'm also quite certain as this one was "just visiting" as it was gone by morning. And for the most part, this car isn't all that exciting to me, but it sure beats seeing yet another boring Toyota Camry Transportation Appliance.
